Our Research
Zero-defect parts
Our recent journal paper published in Additive Manufacturing leverages the power of hybrid manufacturing and machine learning for defect-free parts.
We trained a machine learning model to identify over and under extrusions in ceramic parts. The CHAMP system can rework defective layers by adding, or removing, material to improve part quality.
The results demonstrate a 68% reduction in void content compared to standard prints, highlighting the potential of hybrid manufacturing for defect-free production.
Accelerated drying
In this paper, published in Ceramic International, we demonstrate how interlayer drying can improve part quality.
We demonstrate that interlayer drying improves the shape accuracy of ceramic paste extrusion, but causes layer shrinkage. To address this, we present a method to compensate for shrinkage during the design stage.
The results show a significant improvement in the visual quality, and void content of parts with a non-optimised material, reducing some of the challenges encountered in material formulation.
